Acne Treatment: Beauty and Wellness by Design

Acne is a very common skin condition that can occur at any age, but more commonly affects teenagers and young adults.

The exact cause remains a mystery, but research has revealed four key factors: excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria, and inflammation. These in turn are affected by hereditary or genetic factors, hormones, menstruation or emotional stress.

Although promises of overnight results and acne cures sound great, the truth is: overnight treatment or immediate cure for acne does not exist. Acne treatment takes time — about four to eight weeks.

It’s best that a consultation is made with a dermatologist, who will plan a treatment schedule that may include: 1) comedone extraction, 2) skin medications, 3) use of mild skin cleansers, 4) antibiotics, 5) birth control pills, 6) steroid injections, and 7) possibly, an oral medication called iso-tretinoin.

Botox: Beauty and Wellness by Design

Accent: Beauty and Wellness by Design

Many people are intimidated by the prospect of a surgical procedure, like liposuction — for purposes of body contouring. With new medical technology, however, non-invasive procedures offer patients a viable alternative.

One such technology involves the use of radiofrequency energy  (or RF). Thermage: Beauty and Wellness by Design

Few people had heard of a beauty treatment called Thermage until Oprah Winfrey began championing it on her talk show. In episodes with names like “How to Stop the Clock on Aging,” or “Look Younger! Live Longer!” Ms. Winfrey introduced Thermage as one of the “latest cutting-edge treatments” that requires no recovery time.

Thermage is a non-invasive procedure that reverses the signs of aging in the face and neck by tightening and gently lifting the skin to smooth out wrinkles and renew facial contours. More recently, Thermage has gained FDA approval for protocols for skin tightening around the eye area (Eyes by Thermage) and in the abdomen (Thermage Tummy).

Thermage uses a patented radio-frequency technology called ThermacoolTM that pulses intense radio-frequency heat into the skin’s deeper layers that stimulates collagen production, thereby tightening and smoothening the skin. The result is a look of youthful freshness, with a markedly reduced appearance in wrinkles.

There is a visible difference immediately following Thermage treatment, but optimal results are usually seen three to six months later.  These changes can last up to 2 years after the treatment.
